Description
The Falconclaw PTT is a modular push-to-talk interface designed for users who operate across multiple radio platforms and headset standards. It was developed by Estonian reservists to address the limitations of conventional PTTs, which are typically locked to a single radio connector and a single headset wiring standard.
Core Capabilities
The unit supports both NATO and Peltor wired hearing protection through a single A-B switch on the body. No separate versions or adapters are required for the two common wiring standards. The headset interface uses a Nexus TP-120 (U-174/U) / Nexus J-11 connector.
Radio compatibility is achieved via interchangeable downlead cables. More than 1,200 radio models are supported by selecting the appropriate cable; the PTT body itself remains unchanged when switching platforms. Radio downlead cables are sold separately.
A dedicated Bluetooth channel provides a secondary communications path. When paired to a smartphone, the Bluetooth PTT button can key Zello, deliver ATAK voice notifications, handle phone calls, and route media audio through the headset. This allows communication beyond the range of the connected radio. Radio functions, the onboard electret microphone, and the mechanical switches operate without battery power. A single CR123A lithium cell (non-rechargeable, not included) powers only the Bluetooth side, with approximately 85 hours of continuous audio playback.
The unit features two independent PTT buttons: one for the radio and one for the Bluetooth/phone path. An onboard electret microphone is available via a C-D switch for use with headsets that lack a boom microphone; it is designed to pick up normal conversational speech from the chest area. Note that the Bluetooth path uses the onboard microphone, not the headset boom mic.

Operational Notes
The Falconclaw provides single-radio communication plus a separate Bluetooth secondary channel. It does not automatically bridge audio between the radio network and Zello (or other apps). Users select the desired path by pressing the corresponding PTT button. The design prioritizes mechanical reliability, headset and radio flexibility, and the ability to maintain radio communications even if the Bluetooth battery is depleted or removed.
