Most suppliers of 1911 pin sets to the firearms industry are using leaded steel. You can easily cut leaded steel pins with wire cutters. EGW pins are made from drill rod, which is a much stronger material. EGW pins are manufactured to the GI 1911 print specifications with tighter tolerances.
